It’s on, Fiesta, San Antonio’s sprawling 11-day celebration of revelry, royalty, freedom and fun kicked off today with Fiesta Fiesta with the clink of medals and the crack of cascarones. This year’s Fiesta Fiesta kickoff event provided for more room to roam and enjoy a wider array of attractions. Highlights included a performance by musician Rubén Ramos, artists at work in Hemisfair Gardens, the popular Pin Pandemonium and an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame Truck. The Taste of the Republic also featured fare by more than a dozen chefs.

The Fiesta San Antonio Commission Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer, self-supporting organization that plans, promotes, coordinates, and preserves Fiesta San Antonio through support of its Participating Member Organizations in presenting a safe, educational, annual celebration of the diverse heritage, culture and spirit of San Antonio for its residents and visitors. Fiesta San Antonio is a fusion of arts, heritage and culture and culminates every year in April— to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.

Fiesta literally has something for everyone with more than 110 events ranging in highlights from music, food, sports and pageantry to military and patriotic observances, exhibits, parades, Fiesta Royalty and more. Fiesta is also the “Party with a Purpose” because more than 100 local nonprofit organizations and military units create the more than 100 terrific events that take place over 11 days. Those nonprofit organizations spend the rest of the year giving back to the community of San Antonio.

There is something for everyone, and Fiesta Fiesta was a must-do for seasoned and novice Fiestagoers alike. It was a place where people experienced live music, bartered for Fiesta medals from their favorite events, lounged with their families in a kid-friendly atmosphere, shopped locally made arts and crafts, and tasted creations from San Antonio’s culinary talents, all under the San Antonio skyline. Cascarones were broken and crowds yelled, “Viva Fiesta!” to kick off the Alamo City’s biggest and best festival while Guatemalans that live the VOS® lifestyle proclaimed, ¡Buena Vibra!
